Pedestrian Struck by Train in East Bay

This is the same area where a teenager was struck and killed by a train in April

A pedestrian was taken to a hospital after being hit by an Amtrak train in San Lorenzo this afternoon, an Amtrak spokeswoman said.

Amtrak Capitol Corridor train No. 537 was heading from Sacramento to San Jose when it struck the pedestrian at about 2:30 p.m. where East Lewelling Boulevard crosses the tracks, spokeswoman Vernae Graham said.

The person has been transported to a hospital to be treated, but Graham did not know the extent of the injuries.

This is the same intersection where a teenager boy was hit and killed by a train last month reportedly while he was playing "chicken" with a friend.

Graham said that as of 3 p.m., train No. 537 was still stopped on the southbound tracks, and all other trains were single-tracking around the area.

Trains were not stopping at the nearby Hayward station.
