Pilot Killed in Salinas Plane Crash

The crash happened after the plane took off from Salinas Municipal Airport.

A pilot died Friday morning when his single-engine home-made plane crashed in Salinas, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Spokesman Ian Gregor said the crash happened about 11 a.m. after the plane, called "Prowler Jaguar," took off from Salinas Municipal Airport.

The pilot, the only person on the plane, was killed. The plane was destroyed by fire.

As is routine, the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
