Placerville Man Guilty in Stabbing Wife to Death With Scissors

A Northern California man has been convicted of stabbing his wife to death with a pair of scissors, after jurors rejected his claims of psychiatric breakdowns.

The Sacramento Bee says the jury on Wednesday found 47-year-old Todd Winkler guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon.

Thirty-seven-year-old Rachel Winkler was found brutally stabbed in her Cameron Park home two years ago.

The defense claimed Todd Winkler had a history of personality disorders that resulted in nervous breakdowns. The defense had argued that Winkler killed his wife after she came at him with a pair of scissors during an argument over their divorce — triggering an extreme psychiatric episode.

He faces 26 years to life in prison when he's sentenced Dec. 8.
