Planned Parenthood Clinic Opening in Redwood City; Protesters to be Out in Full Force

Peninsula protesters upset about a Planned Parenthood clinic opening up in their neighborhood hit the streets Monday.

The new Planned Parenthood Mar Monte clinic is set to open Tuesday on El Camino Real in Redwood City.

Anti-abortion activists told NBC Bay Area that more than 1,500 have signed a petition against the clinic in just 11 days.

The clinic's opponents say it will negatively impact nearby residents and businesses.

About 12 protesters were outside the clinic starting at about 8 a.m. Monday morning. They planned to stay there until 6 p.m.

"We’re very concerned about these three issues: the lowering of our property values, our children being such a young age and losing their parents’ consent, and the troubling past that Mar Monte Planned Parenthood has,” Linda Potter said.

Attempts by NBC Bay Area to contact Planned Parenthood Mar Monte were not immediately returned.
