2 Men Shot Dead, 1 Critically Injured Upon Intervening in Domestic Dispute in Marin City: Police

Two men who allegedly attempted to intervene in a domestic dispute were gunned down Sunday in Marin City.

People allegedly carted baseball bats and knives to a fight, which escalated, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office. A total of three people were shot at a large apartment complex on the 90 block of Cole Drive around 10 a.m., officials said.

One man sustained a gunshot to the head and was hospitalized at Marin General Hospital where he was in critical condition, but said to be improving, sheriff's officials said.

The sole survivor initially tried to flee the scene. It remains unclear, however, whether he was running away to protect himself or if he was one of the shooters attempting to avoid being caught, Lt. Doug Pittman said.

LaShawn Fourshey, who identified herself as the mother of one of the victims, Jacari Cook, said her son and his father-in-law were trying to protect a woman when they were killed. She was at work when she heard about Cook's death.

"He didn't hang out — I don't understand," a distraught Fourshey said. "Why him? This is not supposed to be happening to me."

According to Cook's family members, the 29-year-old had two children and worked in construction.

Sheriff's officials took to Twitter just before 11 a.m. to report that deputies are investigating a homicide that claimed multiple lives.

All the people involved in the altercation knew each other, Pittman said, adding that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

Witnesses reported seeing a red motorcycle leaving the scene of the shooting. Central Marin Police officers located a motorcycle, which matched the one described, on the San Rafael Bridge, heading towards Richmond, according to Pittman.

The rider was stopped and questioned but released without any issues, he said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Marin County Sheriff's Office at (415) 473-7250.
