Two San Jose police officers shot and killed a man who they say charged at them with a knife after entering a stranger's home - the first officer-involved shooting in the city this year.
San Jose Police Sgt. Heather Randol.Police said they received a 911 call just after 5 p.m. Wednesday reporting a male armed with a knife had broken into a home.
Officers responded to the 1300 block of Sherman Street, near West Alma Avenue, and confronted the suspect outside the home. Randol said the suspect then charged at officers with a knife. The officers then fired their guns at the suspect, killing him, Randol said. Both officers had seven and eight years on the force respectively, and as is routine, are on paid administrative leave. The officers are from the department's gang suppression unit.
"They did order him to drop the knife. He did not," Randol said. "So they fired from their duty weapons, striking him at least one time."

Wednesday's shooting follows another shooting reported the night before at a Vietnamese restaurant at the intersection of Senter and Tully, in San Jose's Little Saigon neighborhood.
Police said a woman eating dinner inside the May Hong restaurant was struck by a stray bullet in the neck. She is in stable condition.

Police believe the woman who was shot was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sgt. Todd Cleaver told NBC Bay Area it's most likely the shooter "didn't have a target in mind.
Police say the woman, apparently an innocent bystander, was having dinner just before 9 p.m. when she was wounded.
Witnesses tell police that the suspect took off running.
Police have not released a suspect description.
