Police Investigating Report of Kidnapping, Sexual Assault at UC Berkeley

UC Berkeley police are investigating a reported kidnapping and sexual assault on campus.

Investigators said the victim was taken from the campus Thursday night and released by her captors on Friday morning after being assaulted.

The woman was walking through central campus around 6 p.m. when she was abducted, investigators said. Campus police said they believe her kidnappers drover her to another location, where she was sexually assaulted.

Investigators did not provide any other information.

Several students on Friday were shaken by the news of the attack on campus.

"I had a night class from 6 to 8, so that could have been me," student Arah Go said. "I feel like the police and campus has to do something. I'm scared. We're all scared."

Campus police have not released a suspect description or a description of the vehicle.

Investigators said a crime alert was sent to students Friday afternoon. Students are being urged to utilize the campus escort service if they are worried about walking on campus.

The incident is the seventh sexual assault reported on the UC Berkeley campus this year.
