Police say a 63-year-old man has been living with the dead body of a woman inside his Santa Cruz apartment for more than a week.
Officers say they arrested John Clauer on Tuesday night after neighbors complained of suspicious activity and a foul odor coming from his apartment on East Cliff Drive.
Police say they discovered the decomposing body of a woman in her 30's inside of Clauer's apartment unit.
Neighbors say the two were involved in some type of relationship.
Officers say Clauer is a 'person of interest' in the case pending autopsy results that will explain how the woman died.
Clauer has a long criminal history. He has been on parole for the last two years after serving time for second-degree burglary.
He was most recently arrested less than two weeks ago for driving with a suspended license.
