Man Shoots at Oakland Police Officer After Collision; Suspect At-Large

An Oakland police officer was injured Saturday night after a gunman shot at her while she was in her car, according to police.

The officer, later determined to be a supervisor, was involved in a collision with another vehicle when a male suspect subsequently approached the squad car and fired a round, striking the squad car but not the officer, according to a Police Department spokesperson.

Earlier reports said the officer had been shot, and it was later determined she wasn't injured by gunfire. It was unclear how she sustained her injuries.

An emotional and tense sound clip of the moment the officer called dispatch about the shots was obtained by NBC Bay Area. In the sound clip, the officer was breathing heavily, saying that she had been shot at and that she couldn't get out of the car.

The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of 73rd Avenue, near Weld Avenue. The officer was taken to Highland Hospital for treatment. She was released Sunday.

Police are still searching for the suspect in the shooting and say he is armed and dangerous.
