San Francisco police Monday asked for the public's help in identifying and locating a person of interest in a deadly assault that occurred at the intersection of two main thoroughfares in the city a month ago.
A man died from injuries he suffered during an assault at about 2 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the corner of Van Ness Avenue and Market Street, according to police.
The San Francisco medical examiner's office has identified him as Stuart Jackson, 74, of San Francisco.
Police said Jackson was at a bus stop when a suspect, without provocation, began to assault him. Jackson was knocked down and struck his head on the cement. He was taken to a hospital and died on Dec. 13, police said.
Alhough a suspect has not been identified, police are seeking a person of interest in the case. Police describe him as a 6-foot-tall man with a muscular build who may be his mid 20s to mid 30s. Police have released video of the person of interest and are asking for help in identifying him.
At Cafe Trieste in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood, Jackson was a regular. Friends have posted photos of the artist and his famous sketches.
"The last time I saw him I told him his work is brilliant and it is," said Lee Acorn. Friends try to make sense of his absence, remembering a man who captured the characters of the beighborhood in his art
