Power Out Briefly for 40K Bay Area Customers

The weekend rainstorm caused power outages over nearly half a million people.

A power outage affected approximately 40,000 PG&E customers in Alameda County this evening, a utility spokeswoman said.

The outage was reported at about 7:30 p.m. and affected customers in Fremont, Union City, Hayward and Newark, PG&E spokeswoman Brandi Ehlers said. Preliminary reports indicate the outage was caused by equipment failure at PG&E's Newark substation.

Power was restored by 10 p.m.
