Power Outages Leave Thousands Without Electricity

Thousands of residents were without electricity Sunday evening after power outages across the Bay Area, PG&E said.

At one point during the day, PG&E reported 43,000 customers without power across the region. In San Mateo, about 7,400 customers were in the dark until power was restored about 8 p.m.

The power went out at 4:30 p.m. to more than 5,000 customers in Livermore, PG&E spokeswoman Jacqueline Ratto said. Crews were inspecting equipment and making repairs as quickly and safely as possible.

Ratto said crews do not have an estimate for when power would be back on in the East Bay city.

PG&E said more than 19,000 customers still were without power late Sunday night: 8,214 in the South Bay; 8,098 in the East Bay; and 3,178 in the North Bay.
