Pubs Raise $100K to Help Family of Fallen Officer Michael Johnson

South Bay residents have opened their hearts — and wallets — to help the family of San Jose police officer Michael Johnson.

Last week a fundraiser at two locations of the Britannia Arms pub raised more than $100,000. Johnson was shot to death last month while responding to a domestic disturbance call.

The San Jose Peace Officers' association helped organize the fundraisers, which Britannia Arms' owner says far exceeded expectations.

Britannia Arms is a favorite gathering spot for San Jose police and firefighters, so members of both departments came out to contribute Johnson's family at $20 a ticket. The pubs also hosted silent auctions with items signed by the San Jose Sharks.

These fundraisers follow the memorial to honor Johnson’s life on Thursday which was attended by over 8,000 people.
