Much-needed rain returned to the Bay Area Saturday, but not without causing trouble across the Bay Area.
The wet weather canceled the finale of the Bay Bridge Series between the San Francisco Giants and Oakland A's, caused airport delays, and downed a tree in San Francisco.
City crews were working to remove that large tree that came crashing down onto a garage Saturday afternoon. Nobody was hurt because of the downed tree, but the tree hit a gas meter as it came down, and PG&E said this is what may have caused a gas line to rupture.
PG&E was at the scene in the Castro District trying to repair the gas line rupture.
Neighbors said the tree came down at about noon on Hartford Street between 19th and 20th streets. They heard a loud hissing sound and notified PG&E.
"Everybody was running up the street," neighbor Paul Sasso said. "A lot of hissing, and they wouldn’t let us come down. It was pretty intense."
The immediate area was evacuated for about an hour, but PG&E capped the leak, and people were allowed back into their homes. The tree came down after a constant downpour Saturday morning in San Francisco, and the tree also took down some power lines.
It crashed onto the front porch of a home, and given the size of the tree, neighbors said they are just glad no one was hurt.
"I came back home and smelled gas," Sasso said. "I can see why they evacuated everybody. It’s a good idea."
And this is just one of many trees that came down in the wind and rain today.
A branch came down on some power lines in Burlingame Saturday night, causing 17 PG&E customers to lose power. And the southbound lanes of El Camino between Ray and Adeline have been shut down all evening.
Crews were still making repairs to power lines brought down in the rain by the huge branch of a Eucalyptus tree.
In Marin County, a redwood tree came down on Nicasio Valley Road in Marin County, blocking lanes until crews could clear it from the road.
And the rain came down hard in San Jose and across the Bay Area, making for slick driving conditions.
In addition to puddles of water on the field, there was also some flooding in the lower levels of the Coliseum.
The game will not be made up because it is a spring training exhibition game.
