Rain throughout the Bay Area, hail in Orinida and lightning in Martinez peppered the skies overnight, with more precipitation pelting down on Friday.
The hail was so loud in Santa Clara near the stadium, Dana Zuccarello said it woke her up. Lauren Logan wrote on the NBC Bay Area Facebook page it was hailing in Benicia too. In Antioch, Will Hunt said it sounded like "things were falling over outside."
The heavy rain and booming thunder startled Brenna Castelo Hill of Pleasanton, along with her husband and dog. "Thank goodness our girls slept through it," she said.
But by 9 a.m. Friday, rainbows were spotted all throughout San Jose, giving folks a respite from the crazy overnight weather.
Meteorologists say strong upper level energy moving across California will persist off and on through Friday, and wet roads will dampen the early morning commute. A high surf advisory is issued for the coastal areas. And isolated showers may continue into the afternoon.
Thereβs a brief rain break expected during on Saturday with only a slight chance of scattered showers during the evening. More rain could appear on Sunday.

North of the Bay Area, the Sierra mountains are getting hit with mounds of snow. Kirkwood Mountain tweeted the resorts received 23 inches in 24 hours.
The National Weather Service said Thursday that it expects 1 to 2 feet of in the High Sierra and as much as 3 feet on the highest crests.
As of Friday morning, the peak rain total for the Bay Area topped more than three inches.
