Wet Bay Area Roads, Downed Lines, Accidents, Flooding

There were accidents stretching from Richmond to Tiburon all morning long.

With the first real heavy rain of the season pelting Bay Area roadways on Monday, drivers took extra precaution not to slip and slide on the highways because of downed powerlines, flooding and the typical pileup of accidents because of wet roads.

The traffic website, 511.org listed several of the morning's biggest problems including a severe traffic alert in San Mateo County at state Route 35 and state Route 92 because of a downed power line at Muddy Road. All lanes of traffic were closed just about 8:45 a.m. Drivers were told to avoid the area and expect delays.

The California Highway Patrol was responding to flooding at the Gilman Street offramp in Berkeley, and more flooding on state Route 12 near Walters Road in Suisin City.

And there were accidents stretching from Richmond to Tiburon all morning long.

Traffic control sent out an alert just about 8:30 a.m. about high winds on the Bay Bridge, and in general, authorities were advising drivers to simply be careful. Mountain View police, for example, began tweeting early for drivers to stay safe and that they'd have extra patrols at several schoo this morning to make sure that children got to school without any problems.
