There is hardly a dry spot in the Bay Area after Monday’s rain, which flooded roadways and affected flights in and out of San Francisco International Airport.
Five airline pilots reported lightning strikes near Bay Area airports on Monday afternoon, grounding more than 100 flights at SFO.
Pilots on Horizon Airlines, Emirates and two United Airlines aircrafts reported lightning strikes near SFO between noon and 1 p.m. No damage or injuries were reported.
An Alaska Airlines flight en route from Portland to Oakland reported being struck by lightning. That plane landed without incident around 12:45 p.m.
"Our planes are designed to dissipate the electric charge of a lightning bolt without any damage to the aircraft systems," Alaska Airlines spokeswoman Bobbie Egan said.
Oakland International Airport reported no cancellations Monday afternoon, but many flights were delayed up to an hour, an airport operations employee said.

Thunder and lightning wreaked havoc all over the Bay Area.
The Oakland A's held an Opening Night game of the 2014 season against the Cleveland Indians with a sellout crowd. The team was able to play the game despite the wet weather.
In Berkeley, neighbors in the vicinity of Holly Street and Buena Avenue say a 60-foot redwood fell after being struck by lightning around 2 p.m.
"It felt like an IED had gone off,” one witness told NBC Bay Area’s Terry McSweeney.
Parts of the tree were found scattered throughout the neighborhood.
Earlier, two homes in Sausalito were damaged after a redwood tree collapsed on the 100 block of Spencer Avenue. No injuries were reported in either incident, although more than 1,000 PG&E customers in the area were without power for at least an hour.
San Francisco International Airport has had near 100 flight cancellations due to the weather. Delays at the airport were averaging 60-90 minutes.
Rain and winds ranging from 6 to 15 mph were expected to persist through Tuesday night.
