Rain in Bay Area, Snow in Sierra Make For Slick Roads, Slow Travel

Rain in the Bay Area usually means snow in the Sierra Nevada, and the latest system to pass through will not disappoint, according to the National Weather Service.

And that may translate into trouble on the roads.

A cold, low-pressure system will impact interior Northern California on Sunday night, bringing early-season snow to the Northern Sierra range and Lassen Park, the weather service said. Snow levels were expected to fall below pass levels Sunday afternoon, and a few inches of snow accumulation were expected through Sunday night.

Even with minor snow accumulations, major travel headaches are probable, the weather service said. Snow levels are expected down to 6,000 feet in some areas, with up to 3 inches over Sierra passes, the weather service said.

Travelers should expect wet and slick roads due to rain and snow, and delays are likely from Sunday afternoon into the overnight hours Monday.

In the Bay Area on Monday, the forecast calls for clouds and sun, with high temperatures reaching the mid-60s and a 20 percent chance of rain.
