Big Ramen Event Coming to San Jose

Dust off your flavor packets and get the water boiling -- ramen is taking over San Jose.

Ramen Yokocho, the self-billed "largest ramen event in the country," heads to the San Jose Convention Center on Oct. 3, and stays until Oct. 12, according to SanJose.com.

Noodle freaks will be able to sample savory fare from 10 ramen shops each day, according to organizers. San Jose was chosen to host this particular event given that San Jose has one of America's three remaining Japantowns.

Among the ramen shops signed up to compete for the billing of best bowl at the South Hall of the Convention Center are Kohmen and their slow-cooked chicken soup, and Chanpon-Tei's seafood and pork blend.

Tickets are $5 per person, and ramen is $8 a bowl. VIP tickets, which includes access to the "ramen express lane" as well as two heaping helpings of the life-sustaining noodles and broth, are $60.
