The Oakland preacher who predicted the world would end May 21 is facing his own private apocalypse now.

Radio preacher Harold Camping is recovering from a stroke in a Bay Area hospital, according to his staff at Family Stations Inc. Camping reportedly suffered a stroke on the right side of his body.

"Please just pray for him and do not try to contact anyone at his home or Family Radio," Charles Menut, the regional manager for Family Stations Inc. told supporters. "He and Shirley have enough family members to handle the situation. I'm sure we'll be able to publicly update everyone on Monday."

The 89-year-old religious figure, who updated his May 21 end of the world prediction to Oct. 21, suffered a stroke last Thursday.

Camping is reportedly recovering and doctors are "pleased with his progress."

The preacher's prediction that the world was coming to an end on May 21 drew international headlines and pushed some followers to contribute thousands to a $100 million campaign to publicize the Rapture prediction.
