New Record Rents in SF: $3,410 For 1 Bedroom

San Francisco rents are at a new record high.

San Francisco is pulling ahead in the rental "race."

$3,410 is the new asking price for a one bedroom apartment in the city, according to data viewed by the San Francisco Business Times.

That puts San Francisco well ahead of New York, where rents dropped 3.6 percent to a relative bargain of $3,000 a month, according to Zumper, a real estate listings site.

Need more space? Bring more money: A two-bedroom in San Francisco demands $4,690, the newspaper reported.

And the end is far from near. The Bay Area's continuing housing shortage -- with 114,000 new jobs created to only a maximum of 8,000 new housing units added over the same period of time -- will only push rents up further, according to experts.
