The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is investigating an attempted kidnapping in unincorporated Redwood City.

At about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, a woman was walking on the 600 block of 2nd Avenue when a male suspect in a white van slowed down and asked her to get in the car, police said.

When the woman refused, the suspect then stopped the van, grabbed her arm and told the victim to get in the car, police said.

The woman told police that she was able to break the suspect’s grasp, and that he drove off when she threatened to call police.

Surveillance cameras from a nearby home captured the suspect’s vehicle, described to be a late 90s GMC Van. Police also said the van has a distinctive roof rack.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to please contact Detective Dave Manion at 650-522-7654 or call the SMPD Secret Witness Line at 650-522-7676.
