Registrar of Voters Inspects Complaints of Impropriety at San Jose Voting Center

The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters dispatched a field inspector to an East San Jose voting center on Tuesday to investigate complaints of people campaigning too closely to the polling booths.

A caller told NBC Bay Area that an elections observer accused volunteers of handing out flyers right next to the booths at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 2020 East San Antonio Street.

A spokesperson for one of the groups told NBC Bay Area that they’re looking into the situation, but say they trained their volunteers to obey all campaign laws.

“They’ve been pretty aggressive – yelling, handing out fliers, big signs,” said election clerk Rafael Vergara. “They are just everywhere.”

The inspector that was sent to the polling location said he checked the area, and said volunteers seem to be obeying all campaign laws.
