A reputed gang member has been arrested on suspicion of discharging a firearm from a vehicle for a shooting in Livermore early Sunday morning, police said.
Livermore police spokesman Steve Goard said an officer who was patrolling the area of North Livermore Avenue and Walnut Street at about 2 a.m. Sunday noticed a black car on Walnut Street with its headlights off and as he turned around to investigate the car two shots were fired from inside the vehicle.
The officer tried to stop the car when it fled the area but the car failed to yield and attempted to evade the officer, Goard said.
However, the car collided with a PG&E power pole in the 600 block of Sixth Street and officers were able to arrest its driver, 30-year-old Celene Resendiz of Tracy, and its passenger, Juan Carlos Preciado of Livermore, also 30, Goard said.
The handgun that police believe was used in the shooting was recovered after an extensive search of the area and Preciado admitted to possessing and firing the gun, according to Goard.
Police haven't located any shooting victims or determined the purpose and target of the shooting, he said.
Goard said Preciado is a documented gang member and is on parole for an assault with a deadly weapon conviction.

In addition to being held on suspicion of discharging a firearm from a vehicle, Preciado is being held for being a prohibited person with ammunition, resisting arrest and violating his parole, according to Goard.
Resendiz is being held on suspicion of evading police with
reckless disregard for the public.
Goard said the investigation into the shooting is continuing and officers seeking the community's assistance in locating any possible victims or witnesses.
