Rescue Crews Find Missing SF Sheriff's Deputy

Authorities say rescue crews have found the body of a missing San Francisco Sheriff's deputy who had gone missing while boating near a marina in Vallejo.

Vallejo police say the body of 56-year-old Michael Roberts of Hercules was discovered in the water about 300 feet from his fishing boat around 3 p.m. Monday, nearly eight hours after the vessel was found unoccupied and adrift.

U.S. Coast Guard and police say Roberts' wallet and cellphone were found on the 26-foot pleasure boat with its keys still in the ignition.

Police had contacted the sheriff's department and a family member trying to get in touch with the deputy or someone who would know his whereabouts.

San Francisco sheriff's spokeswoman Susan Fahey says Roberts was not scheduled to work on Monday.

Roberts had been with the sheriff's department since 1998.
