Richmond Police Arrest Teen Armed with Uzi

A 15-year-old boy was arrested in Richmond on Monday after police officers spotted him carrying an Uzi submachine gun.

Officers were in the 900 block of Ninth Street around 4 p.m. when they saw the teen - who had an outstanding no-bail warrant out on him - take off running and pull a machine gun from his waistband, Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said on Tuesday.

The boy ran into the nearby home of an acquaintance, where officers found him and the Uzi, the sergeant said.

The Richmond teen was arrested for possession of a firearm and on an outstanding arrest warrant, and taken to juvenile hall in Martinez. He will be charged with possession of a firearm.

Police said they don't know how he gun the gun and described the boy as "uncooperative."

His name is being withheld because of his age.
