Rig Carrying Wastewater Crashed Into Downed Eucalyptus Tree

Winds gusting at high speeds knocked down several trees in the Bay Area early Thursday morning including a 2,000-pound Eucalyptus that fell along eastbound Interstate Highway 80 in Pinole causing a driver of a rig carrying  a truckload of wastewater to crash into it.

California Highway Patrol Officer Steven Fajardin said the driver struck the tree about 3 a.m. and was OK after the collision.

The accident caused a Sig-Alert, blocking three lanes of traffic until about 6 a.m.

Other trees fell along Trimble Road in San Jose, in Petaluma and Sonoma.

The storm hasn’t reached the South Bay yet, but we’re already seeing its impact. Today in the Bay’s Kris Sanchez reports from San Jose where a tree came down in the middle of the road.

NBC Bay Area's Kris Sanchez and Stephanie Chuang contributed to this report.
