Rocks, Boulders, Utility Poles Blocking Bay Area Roads

Utility poles, large boulders and rocks are just some of the obstructions blocking roadways throughout the Bay Area Sunday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP Officer William Ogilvie said the highway patrol responded to a report of a rockslide on state Highway 1 at mile marker 16.79 in Marin County at 2:38 p.m.

Caltrans crews have since pushed the rocks onto the shoulder and as of 5 p.m., the road had reopened, Ogilvie said.

At 3:54 p.m., CHP officers received a report of large rocks blocking both lanes of Highway 1 east of Annapolis Road near Stewarts Point in Sonoma County.

Ogilvie said vehicles were able to go around the large rocks and officers are en route.

At 4:38 p.m., CHP officers received a report of a possible telephone pole blocking both lanes of Tennessee Valley Road near Marin Avenue in Marin County.

Ogilvie said two vehicles hit the pole but the crashes did not result in any injuries.

Ogilvie said the pole is not a power line, but possibly a cable or telephone line. Marin County Sheriff's deputies are rerouting traffic near 2255 Tennessee Valley Road, Ogilvie said.

Near the border of Sonoma and Napa counties, a large boulder is blocking the westbound lane of St. Helena Road roughly three miles east of Calistoga, Ogilvie said.

CHP officers received a report of the boulder at 4:40 p.m., but Ogilvie said no units have been assigned to the assist in removing it and there is no time estimate for when the road will clear.

And in the South Bay, a power pole was knocked down into a busy street early Sunday morning.

Police said a car crashed into a pole at the intersection of Charles Street and Los Gatos Boulevard in Los Gatos. The accident happened around 3 a.m. and caused the top half of the pole to break off, closing the intersection.

It is unclear what led up to the crash, and remarkably, there were no reports of injuries or power outages because of the accident.
