Rohnert Park Man With Machete Arrested on Suspicion of Burglary, Assault

A Rohnert Park man was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of breaking into a neighbor's residence and threatening the occupants with a machete, Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety officials said.

Israel Gonzalez, 37, was arrested after a burglary reported around 9:45 p.m. at 124 Rancho Verde Circle, Cmdr. Pat Strouse said.

The suspect, later identified as Gonzalez, broke a sliding glass window, swung the machete at the residents and held the machete to his own neck, Strouse said.

The residents fled and called police, who then set up a perimeter and tried to contact Gonzalez inside, Strouse said.

Negotiators arrived and continued trying to contact Gonzalez, who eventually left the residence, Strouse said.

He had two large lacerations on each side of his neck and was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, according to Strouse.

Gonzalez was arrested and will be booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and burglary, Strouse said.
