"The Joker" Roller Coaster Still Under-Construction, Already Has Fans
With summer just around the corner, Bay Area amusement parks are gearing up for a season of fun.
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo unveiled its newest ride on Friday, "The Joker," a purple and gree, steel and wood, dual-track scream machine designed to whip thrill riders with new maneuvers and speeds of up to 53 mph.
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom Supervisor Charles Loreano said the coaster's hybrid construction allowed designers from Rocky Mountain Construction to feature twists and turns never before seen on a thrill ride.
“It’s wood meets steel," Loreano said. "Using a wooden superstructure and a steel rail system, it allows us to do some of the incredible maneuvers that this ride does.”
Roller Coaster blogger Kris Rowberry, of GreatAmericanThrills.net, says roller coasters afficionados are excited about "The Joker."
"It has a layout that no other ride has and it has elements that have never been seen before. That’s why the hype is so big," Rowberry said.
Six Flags provided a sneak peak to Rowberry and other roller coaster fans because they help create that hype by blogging.
The fans of all ages took photos like paparazzi for their blogs and online discussion boards, and asked obscure questions of the designers and construction supervisors.
The biggest question is when the ride will open. Six Flags is staying mum on an exact date, but estimates that fans will finally get a taste of "The Joker" by the end of May.
