SF Archbishop Defends Catholic Church on Prop 8 Religious leader claims it's their responsibility to teach faith, beliefs

Prop 8 is a lightning rod for controversy.

 

For the first time, the head of the San Francisco Archdiocese is defending the Catholic church's stand on Proposition 8.

In a statement posted on the church's Web site, Archbishop George Niederauer says:

"Religious leaders have the constitutional right to speak out on issues of public policy and Catholic bishops, specifically, also have a responsibility to teach the faith and our beliefs about marriage and family are part of this faith." 

The archbishop was a key player in bringing the Mormon church to help pass the gay marriage ban, according to leaders in the Mormon church.

If more religious communities would work together on publc issues where there is agreement between them (moral issues) we would be able to establish some since of moral goodness in this country again. And since you are the Archbishop, it is your responsibilities to fight for traditional marriage. Whether people agree or disagree, I'm sure any religious leaders would do the same because that is what they breach.
