SF City Leader Wants Insurance Commissioner Job

An announcement today to make official rumors of the supervisor's run for statewide office

With current Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner busy trying to win the Republican Party's nomination for governor, San Francisco Supervisor Michaela Alioto-Pier is joining the field of folks applying for Poizner's job.

"I've easily had more personal experience with insurance companies than any of the other candidates," Alioto-Pier, granddaughter of former San Francisco mayor Joe Alioto, told the San Francisco Chronicle.

The supe represents San Francisco's Marina district.

She also has experience running for higher office, with two failed runs for secretary of state and one for congress.

However, this time she's running alongside a bunch of local pols looking for work in Sacramento:

Alioto-Pier shares a campaign manager with San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris, who is running for attorney general, and she's a longtime friend and supporter of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who's running for governor.

However, she'll face stiff competition from State Assemblyman Dave Jones, who scored a flurry of endorsements from local party leaders shortly before Alioto-Pier's announcement.

Jackson West admits he hopes a few of these bush-leaguers get called up, since he's already familiar with their careers.
