SF Officer Rescues Woman from Burning Building

A San Francisco police officer is being called a hero tonight after running into a burning building to rescue an elderly woman trapped on an upper floor.

Police say the officer was on his way to another call this afternoon when someone on the 2000 block of Buchanan Street flagged him down to say her building was on fire and her neighbor was trapped.

The officer called for help then went upstairs, kicked in the door and rescued the woman.

The woman needed medical attention, but only for minor injuries.

The officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion and a firefighter was also treated for a cut to his hand.

Officials say the cause of the fire is under investigation.
