San Francisco police are asking for the public's help in locating a missing 20-year-old man.

Derrick Shao, a San Francisco resident, was last seen at about 10 a.m. Thursday on the 900 block of Ingerson Avenue. He was en route to a nearby bus stop in the city's Bayview District to take the MUNI 29 line to San Francisco City College. Police said Shao never arrived at his scheduled classes.

Shao's sister, Jeanie, told NBC Bay Area she is desperate to find her brother.

"I'm very worried for him," she said.

Family said records obtained by police show his iPhone in places in the Bayview they would never expect the computer engineering student to go. He is also known to hang out after school with friends near campus, but never misses dinner with his family.

Shao was last seen wearing black-rimmed glasses, a dark blue Northface hooded pullover, dark jeans, red, white and black Nike shoes, and was carrying a black Jansport backpack.

He is known to frequent McDonald's, Whole Foods, Quickly and other restaurants in the SF City College area. Police said Shao lives with his family and is described as a "homebody."

Anyone with information regarding Shao is asked to call SFPD at 415-553-1071 or the Bayview Station at 415-671-2300.
