SF Subway Project Delayed

San Francisco's subway project is hitting a wall before it's even running.

City leaders had hoped the Central Subway line would be in service by 2016 but a new report says it won't be ready until 2018. What's more, the project will be over budget -- to the tune of $278 million.

“It’s not good news that we have to push the completion date to 2018," José Luis Moscovich, executive director of the San Francisco County Transportation Authority told the Examiner, "because two additional years will mean additional cost increases.”

The federal government will provide most of the money.

The line will include four stations, a surface station at Brannan street and underground stations at Moscone Center, Union Square and Chinatown.
