SFO Bucks Travel Trend

The economy has not fully rebounded, but there is a positive story coming out of SFO.

Overall, air travel around the U.S. is still on the decline, everywhere except San Francisco.

Officials at SFO say people made 11.2 million trips through SFO between June and August.

The numbers come courtesy of the San Mateo County Times.  It reports the increase is a 4.1 gain over the same time last year and an 18 percent increase since 2006.

By comparison, U.S. Department of Transportation figures show air travel nationwide during the summer and overall has dropped during the past three years.

SFO officials say more flights offered by low-cost airlines and more people taking trips to Asia and the Middle East contributed to the increase at the airport.
