SFPD Does Limo Spot Check at SFO

Limousines and shuttle buses were escorted to a lot near San Francisco International Airport at around 8 a.m. Wednesday for a safety check.

Law enforcement and state agencies say they are making sure people who rely on limos and buses are safe.

“We’re looking for scofflaws, cars that don’t follow the rules of the law, cars that don’t follow permits cars that aren’t registered,” Neil Griffin with the San Francisco Police Department said.“Secondly, we are looking at the drivers making sure they are qualified to drive a car.”

The inspection comes a few weeks after this limousine caught fire on the San Mateo Bridge. Five women attending a bridal shower were killed in that fire.

Even though this inspection was not planned because of that deadly fire, it was on the minds of law enforcement doing the inspections.

"Transportation is absolutely a number one priority ensuring that people get to their destinations definitely a concern,” Diana McDermott CHP spokesperson.
