SFPD Gets Mobile App

Real-time reporting will make the city safer, the mayor says.

San Francisco's innovative bent has been mashed up the city's police department with a new mobile app for cops on the street.

The app will allow for police to share reports in real time, improving police department efficiency for officers by an estimated 40 percent, according to a release.

"Working with civic leaders to identify ways in which the San Francisco tech community can improve the city is the mission of sf.citi," Mayor Ed Lee said. "The city's tech industry has drawn on its own talents and resources to find an innovative solution to save our police department time and money, which will in turn make San Francisco a safer place to live."

The pilot project is funded through a $100,000 grant by sf.citi. Hewlett Packard has donated 60 HP Ultrabook laptops to begin training officers. ArcTouch will design the mobile app that pairs with the Crime Data Warehouse.
