Suspicious Package in San Jose Deemed Safe

A police bomb squad has rendered a suspicious package safe at Stockton Avenue and West Taylor Street in San Jose Friday morning, according to police.

The bomb squad responded to the suspicious package at about 7:45 a.m., spokesman Officer Albert Morales said in a statement.

The bomb squad rendered the package safe at about 11:10 a.m., police said.

Police closed the roads in the area while the bomb squad investigated the package and roads are now open. No one evacuated because of the incident, but police told people to stay inside.

An employee at nearby Paul's Quick Stop Liquor said police arrived at a driveway near the intersection of the two streets after 8 a.m. and police told him to stay inside during the investigation.

A preliminary report from police said the package contained batteries wrapped in tape with some exposed wires.
