An East San Jose neighborhood is getting back to normal after a standoff early Thursday morning between police and an armed attempted homicide suspect who had locked himself in his car.

Police coaxed the man out of his vehicle at about 8:45 a.m. with the help of a specialized robot that's made just for these situations. He was taken from the scene in an ambulance but police have not released any information about his condition.

Police spotted the car at about 2 a.m. and tried to pull the man over but he took off and cops didn't pursue. They saw the car again at about 4 a.m. on Seminole Way at Tampa Way near King Road. When officers surrounded a car and tried to take the suspect into custody, he fired at them.

One officer was hurt by flying glass. He was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said.

Officers fired at the car several times but it's not known whether the man inside was hit. He was moving, but "not necessarily responding to our commands," Lopez said.
