SJC Considers Name Change

The San Jose airport is already a mouthful.

San Jose's airport could soon have a brand new name - again.

The San Jose Mercury News says during a special committee meeting Thursday, city leaders will talk about changing the airport's name to "Norman Y. Mineta San Jose/Silicon Valley International Airport".

The city says the change could help it market the airport better and bring more business to the area.

San Jose is the Bay Area's third busiest airport, behind SFO and Oakland. Since the economic downturn in 2008, it has lost a quarter of its passengers and a third of its scheduled flights.

In case you're wondering, the airport's name right now is "Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport."
