SJPD Investigate 9th Homicide of Year

San Jose police on Monday began investigating the city's 9th homicide of the year when officers found a 30-year-old man who had a history with the department fatally shot in the chest.

Police received a 911 call at 4:25 a.m. about a person down near the intersection of Murtha Drive and Capitol Avenue near Reid Hillview Airport, according to police.

Lt. Mike Sullivan said a neighbor found the man - who has a history with police. Still, Sullivan did not immediately know why the man was killed or have any suspects in custody. He also said that witnesses told police they heard arguing about 2 a.m., and now, investigators are trying to figure out if the fight was related. He said the man was shot in the chest.

By 9 a.m., the scene was clear.

This death follows on the heels of two others: Police announced arrests in those cases last week.

San Jose police said on Friday that they arrested a 20-year-old man in the stabbing death of someone he knew and whose body was found Wednesday just yards from the main entrance into Guadalupe Oak Grove Park .

Sgt. Jason Dwyer said Vincent Gallegos was arrested in the connection of the stabbing death of Errick Wright, 27. He said the two knew each other, but didn't elaborate on the relationship. He did say, however, that the death was not gang related. Wright's death was the seventh of the year.

Wright's death was unusual because his body was found about 4 p.m. in Almaden Valley, a typically quiet and affluent part of the city, which has seen a recent spike in home invasions and break-ins.

Also on Friday, police announced that they had arrested Regina Butler in connection with the death of her 69-year-old boyfriend, Stanley Jacobson. He had been missing since Feb. 5, but his body was found under a pile of blankets inside his own Hilltop Senior Apartments complex on Thursday morning.
