Man Shot in San Jose on Capitol Expressway

Police are investigating an apparent road rage shooting that injured one person in South San Jose Thursday morning.

The shooting took place around 9:50 a.m. at Capitol Expressway and Copperfield Drive, about a half-mile east of state Highway 87, police said on Twitter.

Police initially said the case was a double shooting, but later clarified that there was one victim, a male who suffered injuries not considered life-threatening.

Multiple police patrol cars were seen at a shopping center northeast of the intersection. Police blocked off Copperfield Drive at Capitol Expressway, where a gold van that appeared to be disabled was in the right northbound lane and struck the center divider.

Police say the incident began as a road rage incident near Capitol and Monterey Road. Police said the suspect’s vehicle chased the victim’s vehicle, the gold van, to the intersection of Capitol and Copperfield. At the intersection, the van hit a median and four occupants got out and fled on foot. Someone from the suspect vehicle got out, shot at the fleeing men, hitting one of them. The suspect vehicle then took off on northbound Copperfield Drive, police said.

Traffic was not disrupted on Capitol Expressway in both directions.
