SJSU President Stepping Down

Surprise announcement comes after just two years at the helm

San Jose State University President Jon Whitmore made a surprise announcement Thursday morning via press release: He's leaving his post.

Here's his official word:

There is no easy way to say this to all of you, so I will simply be open and forthright. It is with deeply mixed feelings that I announce I am stepping down as President of San Jose State University late this summer.

His short time at the university has been a challenge because of the state's budget cuts to education, he said in the announcement.

Whitmore, who has been the school's president since 2008, took a job as the CEO of ACT Inc., the company that provides annual testing for high school students.
