Oakland police arrested a 37-year-old man that they say fatally shot two men sitting in their car, punched and shot a third victim, injuring him critically, and then torched their car on fire earlier this week.
Alameda County Assistant District Attorney Nobert Chu charged Francisco Jesus Hernandez with two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and arson, along with other special circumstances allegations stemming from the Aug. 8 crime in the 9900 block of Empire Road near the Oakland International Airport.
Hernandez's arraignment was scheduled for Thursday to answer the charges. Efforts to determine if he had an attorney were unsuccessful.
Police and prosecutors say that Hernandez killed Juan Ramos and Alfonso Ibanez Jr. while they were sitting in their car about 1:45 a.m. They also allege that Hernandez pulled Miguel Cruz out of the car and punched him, before shooting him, putting him back in the car, and setting it on fire, according to court documents. Video at the scene showed a car on fire burning outside a light-colored house swarming with police officers.
The documents also indicate there was another suspect involved, although no more information about that was made public.
Hernandez was arrested at a Hayward gas station on Tennyson Road.
A motive was not released.
