A Sacramento man suspected of shooting the mother of his infant daughter to death Tuesday while they were inside a car on a street in San Jose remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous, police said.
Andrew "Drew" Butler, 25, is wanted in the homicide of 33-year-old Kendra Gonzales, also of Sacramento, who died from a gunshot allegedly fired by Butler, according to police Officer Albert Morales.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Butler, who may be in the Sacramento area but also has ties to Salinas, Marina, Monterey and Seaside in Monterey County, police said.
Since Butler should be regarded as armed and dangerous, police are urging the public not to come in contact with him and to call police if they see him, Morales said.
At 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, police were called to the 1300 block of South Bascom Avenue about a quarter-mile east of state Highway 17 where they found Gonzales lying on the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound, officers said.
The San Jose Fire Department and medical personnel attempted life-saving measures but Gonzales was pronounced dead at the scene.
From a preliminary investigation, police learned that Gonzales had been driving a vehicle with Butler in the front passenger seat and their 1-year-old daughter and two other people in the rear seat, Morales said.

At one point Gonzales and Butler got into an argument and Butler shot her, then removed her body from the vehicle, placed it on the roadway and ordered the people in the rear to leave and take the infant with them, Morales said.
Butler drove away and his abandoned vehicle was located later in Salinas and seized for evidence purposes, police said.
He is described at African American, 5 feet 5 inches tall, weighing 140 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair, a mole near the left eye and was last seen wearing a navy blue short-sleeved shirt with "Ford" written across the chest, navy blue sweat pants and possibly black Reebok brand athletic shoes with a gray or white trim.
