Salinas Man Thrown Off 101 Overpass

Police arrested two people Wednesday morning for allegedly attacking a  man and throwing him off of a Highway 101 overpass in Salinas.

The 18-year-old victim was walking across the highway on North Main Street at about 5:30 a.m. when he encountered two  men who allegedly began attacking him without provocation, police said.

During the assault, the men allegedly picked up the victim and  threw him from the overpass. The victim fell 22 feet to the median between  the northbound onramp and the northbound lanes, police said.

A passing motorist saw him as he was crawling to the edge of the  northbound onramp and called 911.

The victim was transported to a hospital with serious upper-body  injuries.

Police located the suspects nearby and took them into custody.  They've been identified as Ysidro Madrigal, 21 and Juan Barajas, 18.

Both were booked into Monterey County jail on attempted murder  charges. Madrigal was additionally booked for a probation violation.
