San Bruno to Hold Press Conference Alleging Illegal Conduct by CPUC, PG&E in 2010 Pipeline Explosion

City leaders in San Bruno are expected to make a major announcement Monday, alleging a cozy relationship between PG&E and the California Public Utilities Commission, according to a press release.

City leaders said they will make the announcement of significant actions and measures against them at 9 a.m. on the steps of the CPUC at 505 Van Ness Ave. in San Francisco. The city said they will expose illegal conduct, in the 2010 gas pipeline explosion, by CPUC President Michael Peevey, senior CPUC staff, and senior PG&E officials.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. pleaded not guilty Monday to a dozen felony charges stemming from alleged safety violations in a deadly 2010 natural gas pipeline explosion that leveled a suburban neighborhood in the San Francisco Bay Area. Joe Rosato Jr. reports.

Those expected to speak on behalf of San Bruno include state Sen. Jerry Hill, Mayor Jim Ruane, representatives for Congresswoman Jackie Speier, San Bruno city officials, and San Bruno legal advisers.

The alleged illegal communications between PG&E and the CPUC were obtained through the California Public Records Act, according to the city. In February, the city filed a lawsuit to get the records, which it says it requested more than a year ago and revealed the cause of the deadly explosion.

PG&E responded with the following statement:

On Sept. 9, 2010 a PG&E gas pipeline exploded in San Bruno, killing eight people and injuring 66. Thirty-eight homes were destroyed and many more damaged.
