San Carlos Saves Money and Firefighters Save Jobs

The city council voted unanimously, Monday night, to open talks with Redwood City to merge fire departments and share emergency services. The move would help the city reduce a projected $1 million dollar budget deficit.

The city council had debated between the merger and a second option to privatize its fire services. The outsourcing option would have meant firefighters would lose their jobs.

If approved, the merger would start October 12th.
