A former employee of City College of San Francisco is facing several felony charges for allegedly misrepresenting injuries she suffered while on the job, the District Attorney's Office announced Friday.
Marta Betancur, 64, of Antioch has been charged with attempted perjury and filing a false or fraudulent claim, among other charges. Betancur was arraigned Wednesday on the charges and entered a plea of not guilty, prosecutors said.
Back in 2015, Betancur reported a workplace injury to the school and began receiving medical treatment and disability benefits up until she retired in 2017, according to prosecutors.
During that time, she claimed that despite visits to doctors and specialist, her pain was too extreme and she wasn't able to perform her job.
However, video surveillance captured Betancur performing many of the tasks she had previously said she wasn't able to.
Prosecutors said her allegedly fraudulent claims cost the city more than $70,000.
"Insurance fraud is a multi-billion dollar crime that has real costs to consumers," District Attorney George Gascon said in a statement.

"Fraud drives up insurance premiums for the rest of us," he said.
